Autumn nature colours encourage you not only to make colourful bouquets of leaves near your home, but also to go explore and discover the forest. Nature enters the city: on 25 October, the Embassy of Latvia's State Forests held the Day of LVM Kalsnava Arboretum. Those interested had the opportunity to explore the arboretum's unusual collection of woody plants and the range of its tourism offer, while groups of pre-school and elementary school students could take part in specially prepared cognitive forest education classes in the urban environment.

All day long, there were discussions on and around cultivation, tending and propagation of woody plants. An insight into the album of arboretum collections, thematic events and creative activities. Environmental education games - both small and big. Working with natural materials.

At 10.00, 12.00, 14.00, Green Yard school classes (both indoor and outdoor) were held for groups of preschool and elementary school students. These are lessons about nature - the forest, where the subjects and the basic principles of the bioeconomy are introduced.

For pre-school and primary school children, arboretum is a place where a large collection of woody plants grows. The little collectors go outside to find and collect treasures of nature, exploring the environment around them. During the Day of LVM Kalsnava Arboretum, the young explorers had the opportunity to explore nature and collect impressions in the Green Yard School lesson - the urban environment.

Elementary school students appreciate the opportunity to gain new knowledge through practice. In the green yard, nature explorers will have the opportunity to discover the secrets of nature by playing the game “Each for Themselves”. The planned activities will give the understanding that any tree can grow as long as the necessary resources are available.

At 17:00, there were discussions on the importance and main tasks of LVM Kalsnava Arboretum, an insight into the arboretum rare tree plant collection. Those interested had an opportunity to get acquainted with the environmental education opportunities at LVM Kalsnava Arboretum, as well as its tourism opportunities.

Discussions lasted until as late as 19.00: questions and answers about ornamental plants, thematic events and environmental awareness activities.

Autumn colours in LVM Kalsnava Arboretum

Although the active tourism season has ended at LVM Kalsnava Arboretum, its outdoor spaces are still buzzing full of school student chatting. They act, repeat, look, run, wonder and watch. Like anyone who visits the arboretum, they learn something new about woody plant collections, play environmental science games, and feel like a collector.

LVM Kalsnava Arboretum has been included in the list of specially protected nature territories - dendrological plantations. It is a man-made nature garden that has been cherished already for 44 years. A clean environment, unusual tree plant collections, creative workshops and other events have drawn public attention, attracting more than 27 000 visitors to the arboretum last year.
