Wind farms

LVM has selected land units under its management and ownership, applying a number of restrictions and excluding areas not suitable for wind farms. The selection produced a map of Potential wind farm development areas in state forest lands, which spatially displays the land units owned and managed by LVM where it would be reasonable to carry out a wind farm development survey and allows one to identify the cadastral designation, municipality, county, and geographical location of the land units and parts thereof. The map is intended for use by potential bidders and provides publicly accessible information on the land units where it is reasonable to carry out a wind farm development survey on LVM lands.

No wind farms will be developed on LVM land:

• in and within 800 m of towns and villages as well as within 800 m of residential and public buildings;
• in nature protection areas where the construction of wind farms is not compliant with the laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia;
• in areas where forest land is managed for nature protection and LVM has established additional protection for preserved environmental values as well as in forest areas important for public recreation, etc.;
• In areas with cultural monuments.

The selection produced a map of Potential wind farm development areas in state forest lands, which spatially displays the land units owned and managed by LVM where it would be reasonable to carry out a wind farm development survey and allows one to identify the cadastral designation, municipality, county, and geographical location of the land units and parts thereof.

The map of Potential wind farm development areas in state forest lands shows the following types of areas:

• Areas with development rights agreements;
• Plots of land for wind farm development surveys to be included in the auctions upon the submission of a reasoned application to LVM by 1 May 2024*.

*Please note that the areas shown on the map are potential SURVEY areas – where it is justified to conduct a survey on the possibility of developing wind farms. This arrangement of areas is based on a selection process, which excludes areas unsuitable for wind farms.
