The National Armed Forces (NAF) have been organising military exercises in the territory managed by JSC "Latvia's State Forests" (LVM) already for more than 10 years. Most often, the qualification courses and training for national guards and military transport drivers are held in LVM mining sites.

"It is important to coordinate the training process with LVM co-operation partners in order to avoid disturbing the company's production processes and restricting opportunities for public recreation. During the training, the NAF provides public safety and environmental protection measures at the training sites. After training, the mining sites are put into order and handed over according to our requirements," says Baiba Rozīte, LVM Subsurface Resources Sales Manager.

Last year, an agreement was reached on cooperation between LVM and the NAF to facilitate the conduct of military training, taking into account forest management, defence and social interests, as well as environmental requirements. More than 200 military exercises are organised annually by the NAF in the state forest area.

The NAF cooperates with state, municipal and private institutions in accordance with the procedure prescribed by law. Collaboration is based on civil-military co-operation, which is a planned and coordinated action of public administrations, society and the NAF to prevent any possible threat to the state. Military training takes place every year; the most important of them include the following: "Namejs", "Saber Strike", "Summer Shield" and "Sudraba bulta".

JSC "Latvia's State Forests" (LVM) manages more than 100 mineral extraction sites in the whole territory of Latvia, which are important for the needs of the national economy. Locations have been carefully selected to balance the economic needs of both the company and the state for mineral materials and their mixtures, without creating environmental risks.
