stipendiati

JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” (LVM) announces a scholarship competition for students, this way continuing the LVM scholarship program tradition to promote students’ growth and education in forestry. Scholarships will be granted in the following areas: environmental education and communication, forest ecology, forest management, wood use and information systems in forestry. Special scholarships will be granted to the best students of Ogre Technical School. Application deadline – December 4.

Students from different study fields who acquire or are interested in any of the LVM scholarship areas may apply to the program. This is an opportunity to increase students’ motivation to develop their skills. The scholarship is not only a financial support, it also gives a chance to learn about the industry as a whole by participating in the forest days, attending educational seminars with industry experts, and working in nature – in the forest.

“As an LVM scholarship holder, I received an opportunity to develop my knowledge comprehensively and truly enjoy this time”, says Sabīne Birzgale, a master's program student of the Faculty of Geography and Earth Sciences of the University of Latvia, who received one of the LVM scholarships. “For me as a geographer, it was very interesting to find out how many different industries there are hiding in the forest. Today, it is not the traditional forest science, but an entire logistics that take care of the forest”, concludes Sabīne and points out that seminars within the program enhanced her understanding about such forest industries that she had previously considered to be a bit of a mystery.

Igors Minovs, a student of the Civil Engineering Faculty of Riga Technical University, appreciates the scholarship program and seminars organized within the program, where it is possible to find answers to different questions, for example “Where does wood come from?”. “We can learn everything about the wood characteristics, use, and its strength in the subject devoted to construction materials. I encourage others to apply for the scholarship, it is a great way how to spend time and learn about the company’s work”, says Igors.

The best students from Ogre Technical School that currently are in the second semester of first study year and are studying to become forestry technicians, forest machine operators, or forest machine mechanics are also invited to apply for the scholarship.

“Knowledge acquired in the LVM seminars is priceless. It is impossible to get this kind of  information from study materials. Having learnt about the company's operations, I understand that I would like to work here in the future”, says Matīss Onkurāns, last year’s LVM scholarship program participant from Ogre Technical School.
