In spite of the strong wind, the bravest and most enthusiastic anglers came together at LVM Lake Kaņieris to compete in the last stage of the Mammadaba (Mother Nature) Angling Championship 2016. A six-stage-competition started in May with participation of 13 teams. It took place at four different lakes managed by JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” (LVM): Tērvere Reservoir, Lake Gulbju, Lake Kaņieris, Lake Lielauce. This year’s winning team in the angling championship “Emīlija-Talsi” kept its position for the third year.

The last six-hour-long stage of the competition took place at LVM Lake Kaņieris. And the competition would not be the same without weighing perches, checking the pike photos in the “catch table”, and, of course, the fishing stories. The team “2 vīri laivā”, represented by Haralds Siliņš and Roberts Abrams, took the third place catching two beautiful pikes, one of them reaching a length of 90 centimeters. Almost one-meter long pike became the biggest catch of the competition.

Māris Smilga and Aivars Smilga from the team “Čuš” caught four pikes and got the second place in the competition, whereas leaders in the total score Romalds Ribuzuls and Mārtiņš Reks representing the team “Emīlija–Talsi” were also the winners of the last stage with twice the amount of caught fish.  ”We caught eight big pikes that ranged from 57 up to 67 centimeters, and almost two kilograms of perches”, says Romalds Ribuzuls.

The competition winners had a convincing victory; however results of other teams were quite close and it was hard to determine the places. In the total score of the competition the second place was taken by Māris Kārkliņš and Kristīne Āboltiņa from the team “Vizulīši”, the third place was maintained by Rinalds Bērziņš and Zigmārs Bērziņš from “Bērzi”. To set the fourth, fifth and sixth place, it was necessary to sum all points together, and all teams gained the same score. With the highest score in all six stages of the competition, Māris Smilga and Aivars Smilga representing the team “Čuš” took the fourth place; Aivars Līdumnieks and Kaspars Grablovskis from the team “Komanda” were the fifth, but Ivars Lasmanis and Haralds Viškers representing the team “Āķis lūpā” ranked the sixth.

Already for the sixth time everyone who likes angling was invited to participate in Mammadaba open angling championship. It is not only a great way how to have a good time in places of big catches, but also a chance to meet like-minded people.
