Nature friend Māris Olte and JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” (LVM) invited predatory fish anglers to take part in the first contest “atlaid mammu!” (Release the Mother!) that has been taking place already since 1 July. It is aimed at taking care of and maintaining the fish resources in the Latvian water bodies. We would like to congratulate considerate and aesthetic anglers in the summer season!

Māris Olte reminds anglers that nothing is over yet – considerate fishing contest in the LVM -managed lakes will be open until the frost takes care of the water by freezing it. For that reason, every angler is invited to “catch and release” big and predatory fishes, take a photo or video of this event and share it in the contest “atlaid mammu!”. Good work won't be left unnoticed – the biggest catches of the month will be rewarded, but other participants will receive incentive awards and honorary anglers' badges - medals that symbolize the accession to the Honorary Anglers' Community.

Gundars Kurzemnieks, President of Latvia Angling Sports Federation (LASF) highly values the initiative of the contest “atlaid mammu!”. “I have noticed that overall fishing culture is improving – the community of considerate anglers and those, who “catch and release” is increasing. To make the fish resources in water bodies as rich as it is in our neighbouring countries to the north and west, we need to act together. It should be done hand in hand with the development of the country. The first step might be introducing a limit to the length for the predatory fishes – pikes, zanders, perches,” says Gundars Kurzemnieks.

The prizes to the contest “atlaid mammu!” winners are available in LVM boat centers:

Rinalds Bērziņš, Staņislavs Pinks, Aivis Štrāls may collect their prizes, diplomas and honorary anglers' badges for the largest released pike of the month in the LVM Lake Kaņieris boat center. Incentive prizes and badges for the second largest and released pike in June and August were awarded to Edgars Katamadze and Ģirts Neimanis. In turn, Toms Klabis and Modris Skults received honorary anglers' badges.

Zigmārs Bērziņš and Arvīds Zariņš are invited to collect their prizes, diplomas, and honorary anglers' badges at LVM Tērvetes reservoir boat center.

To participate in the contest all season long, anglers do not need to weigh or kill their pike or perch catches in LVM-managed lakes; they just need to be measured in the official fish trough, photographed, and gently released back into the lake, also taking a video or a photo of the moment.
