Six thousand school students will explore Latvia’s State Forests

JSC "Latvia’s State Forests" (LVM) has planned 210 Forest Days activities for 6000 school students who will not only take part in the clean-up works and help setting up nest boxes, but will also learn about the importance of sustainable forest management. "Forest is growing, and so are we" is the slogan for the Forest Days 2016.

To make the day in the forest more valuable, LVM recommends the students to do some homework: play an on-line game about forest management called "Mežotājs" (The Forester), watch LVM animation "Mežs cilvēkiem" (Forest for People), and finally - get to know the interactive forest management cycle, which serves as the basis for our forest tours. Previous preparation will allow the participants to see how their theoretical knowledge about forest management looks in real life, as well as help them answer the questions prepared by our experts.

"The Forest Days have a long tradition, and they are organised to demonstrate how LVM manages state property entrusted to the company: how, why, when and how much is being done in the forest. In this case it is not the scope of work done that is of key importance, it is people's involvement and interest in forest and the works that still need to be accomplished. We do our best to address and involve people, we want to show them how Latvia’s forests are growing," says Kaspars Riže, LVM Senior Forest Expert.

Participation in the Forest Days events gives the schools additional opportunities to take part in the Mother Nature Master Class.
