Forests take over Rīga!

If city residents do not visit forests, forests will come to city residents! This Saturday, September 14, the “Countryside Enters the City” event will be held at the Spīķeri Creative Quarter, during which JSC Latvia’s State Forests will tell both young and old visitors about the speed of forest growth and the forest management cycle. All visitors will also have the chance to shake hands with the main protector of clean forests – Cūkmens (Pigman)!

Within the framework of the “Countryside Enters the City” event, we invite families to visit our section dedicated to forests in order to find out how forests are run nowadays and which products are made from Latvian timber. You will also be able to receive expert advice and informative materials, test your knowledge in various interactive games and quizzes.

When visiting JSC Latvia’s State Forests stand, you will learn how to grow a tree and how much time it takes to grow a quality tree. It is hard to believe that a 40-metre tree can grow out of a plant only several centimetres above the ground. You will also become acquainted with the cycle of forest management and be surprised that “today's nuisance is tomorrow's peril”. There will also be a video story on how long it takes to grow one cubic metre of timber. Young and old visitors will be actively educated by Cūkmens, the protector of clean forests, and Mammadaba messengers will inform about various recreational opportunities in Latvia’s state forests.

The forest industry has been one of the cornerstones of Latvia’s economy for several dozen years. At the moment, forests occupy more than a half of Latvia’s territory. In contrast to various fossil or non-renewable resources, forests are renewable. The forest industry employs a considerable share of Latvia’s residents. For many of them, forests are the best recreation and relaxation places.
