New school year begins with opening of Mammadaba embassies

For the fifth consecutive year, JSC Latvia’s State Forests (LVM) grants the title of Mammadaba embassies to Latvia’s “greenest” schools. Seventh-graders and teachers who were the most active participants in Mammadaba master classes last year, mastering the international environmental education program “Learning about Forests”, turned out to be the greenest this year.

„Latvijas valsts meži”  sirsnīgi pateicas skolām par brašo darbošanos un, lai vēl vairāk veicinātu dabas klātbūtni skolās, 2. septembrī  atklās Mammadaba vēstniecības, kas darbosies visu mācību gadu un dos iespēju bērniem un skolotājiem mežu iepazīt un iemīlēt vēl dziļāk.

Sveicam Mammadaba vēstniecības ar jaunā mācību gada sākumu!

What do schools gain from being Mammadaba embassies?

• Textbooks and study materials about forests

• A bird-watching tour with ornithologists

• Forest Career Days with LVM staff

• Further education courses in environmental education

Schools are also presented special birdfeeders to remind children that caring for nature is a continuous and lasting process, just like forest management.

The Mammadaba flag flies over Mammadaba embassies during the entire school year. Mammadaba embassies, located in areas managed by LVM forestries and serving as regional forest environment education centres, proudly bear their title until the end of the school year.

Each year, as a result of a friendly agreement between LVM and the Education and Science Ministry’s National Education Centre with a common goal to bring schools closer to nature, Latvia’s greenest schools are accredited as Mammadaba embassies. They invite each and every one to take a deep breath, gain knowledge and become familiar with the most beautiful places for recreation in Latvia’s natural surroundings. Mammadaba embassies earn their title by actively proving their knowledge, skills and affection for forests, forest values and surroundings. They plant trees, participate in clean-ups, set up bird houses, take part in the Forest Olympiad, visit Mammadaba sites and integrate environmental education in their schools within the framework of the Mammadaba master classes.
