A NEW VIEWING TOWER OPENED IN KRĀSLAVĀ

On Friday, 23 May, the Priedaine viewing tower was opened to public in Krāslava. The tower is situated in the area of Kaplava parish, Krāslava district on lands managed by Dienvidlatgale forestry of AS Latvijas valsts meži (LVM).

32 metres high, the Priedaine viewing tower is the highest such tower on lands managed by LVM.

The tower has been erected as the result of LVM getting involved in the partnership Project of Interreg   program Bicycle Routes’ Network Development in the Lake districtof Baltics.  The partnership in the Project cuts the tower building expenses by 75% due to attraction of the EU funding which is an important saving for a large infrastructure-recreation facility.

The viewing tower offers scenic vistas on Daugava river and the town of Krāslavain all seasons. On the side of Daugavpilsone can see the meanders of the Daugava river while on the side of town one can see Krāslava layout from above. In clear weather one can imagine seeing over the tree-tops the expanse of Belorussia.

Priedaine viewing tower is both, an infrastructure element and place of tourist interest included in the Bicycle Rout Saulkrastu taka [Saulkrasti pathway], rambling along the bank of Daugava and returning to Krāslava.
