Video Surveillance of Mineral Sites Helps to Detect Criminal Offences

On the morning of 22 August, at a mining site of JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” (LVM) in Vidzeme, an unauthorized person was found to have entered the territory of the mining site managed by LVM. Surveillance cameras recorded how a tractor driver had passed the quarry gate, illegally obtained minerals and left.

An LVM employee, arriving at the mining site to estimate the amount of damage, found that the offender in order to hide his deeds, had levelled the surface on which he moved. Information on the criminal offence has been provided to the State Police.

Surveillance cameras are located in the territory managed by LVM, including at the mining sites, with the aim of preventing and detecting criminal offences related to the protection of property. There are information signs in place at all mining sites, which indicate the safety measures to be observed while in the area, as well as the fact that video surveillance is taking place in the area.
