Autumn is a time when the wind blows at the tops of bare trees, but it is not a reason to spend your free time indoors. That is why the new Mother Nature (Mammadaba) magazine has come out, and it will not only inspire you to visit yet unknown and exciting places in the region of Latvia richest in lakes, but will also give you an insight into the history of state forests.

Latgale has long been known for its scenic splendour - crystal clear lakes, lush forests and countless mountains. That is why we invite all nature friends to explore picturesque places like Mount Greblis, Lake Kovšezers, and of course Lake Lubāns area, which is sometimes called the cradle of civilization by the locals.

In turn, history lovers will be fascinated by pages that reflect the history of state forests over the past 100 years - from the establishment of the first Forest Department in the restless year 1919 to how Latvia, thanks to its purposeful and sustainable management, has become one of Europe's most forested countries. The magazine also contains stories from the Stompakis Mire, a place where, inspired by Pēteris Supe, the national partisans of Latgale gathered for battles.

And of course we cannot do without the stories of the locals, who pride themselves on their homeland. This time, Uģis Bergmanis, LVM Senior Environmental Expert, talks about the magic of autumn evenings in the nearby forests of Aiviekste - here in quiet autumn evenings the most observant will hear the cries of red deer, elks and wolves. Textile artist and weaver Annele Slišāne will tell about weaving forest in a blanket.

In spite of the uncosy weather conditions, dress warmly and get to know the magic of Latgale. It does not matter if you do it alone or together with your companions - each and every guest will be warmly welcomed in the land of the blue lakes.
