The Latvian Forest Days Call on Everyone Interested to Explore and Try Forest Works

The Latvian Forest Days that are to take place in Tērvete on 24 and 25 May, will offer those interested not only the opportunity to spend time in fresh air, but also to learn about forestry in over 80 exploratory activities together with experienced foresters, representatives of business and educational institutions and many other players in the industry.

During the two days of the event, entrepreneurs will be introduced to the benefits of wood products and the widespread use of wood, displaying wooden and functional items - wooden bikes, garden furniture, floors, doors and even wooden houses.

Professionals in the field will tell about good forest management, fire protection and hunting. The nuances of practical work will be revealed by observing ground drilling, twig chipping, firewood preparation, tree felling, pruning and other demonstrations. During the event, there will also be a forest planting machine, which was this spring tested for the first time in the Latvian forestry practice.

Forest education stands will provide an insight into educational opportunities and learning paths, as well as give an opportunity to “try your hand” in possible future jobs: sawing logs, discovering the world of cutting edge chainsaws, becoming a forestry machinery harvester and forwarder operator.

“By participating in such an ambitious event, it is important for us to develop an understanding that forest education and study programmes are the ones that nurture, respond to and form the value of Latvia's green gold, as well as conquer the world market with wood products made in Latvia. The Latvian Forest Days are a place for a dialogue about the forest sector, for overcoming myths and stereotypes. This event is one of the instruments where the forest sector works jointly for public education purposes,” says Sigita Liše, Head of the Woodworking Department of the Forestry Faculty of Latvia University of Agriculture.

The Latvian Forest Days are organised by JSC “Latvia's State Forests” in cooperation with Tērvete Municipality Council, the Latvian Forest Owners Association, the Latvian Wood Industry Federation and the Association “Zaļās mājas”.
