Presenters: Vilmārs Katkovskis, Jānis Zitāns (Regional directors of forest management planning, JSC “Latvia’s State Forests”)

Description: All sixth grade students in Latvia have a healthy opportunity to acquire natural sciences in the forest in the form of a joint adventure – in Latvia's State Forest Expeditions. Each year students from Latvia's largest cities are able to see with their eyes and try with their hands and feet, what forest management means and what role it has in our daily lives. Last year more than 6500 pupils joined the expeditions! The expeditions were led by more than 120 employees of LVM whose daily work in many ways is related to the forest: planners, foresters, forest infrastructure specialists, lawyers, regional managers and other specialists.

The different Forest Expedition routes are planned in all regions of Latvia in a length of around two kilometres, and they include a variety of educational stops. During the expeditions pupils use mathematics and other skills to solve the everyday problems of a forester. Expeditions also take place in LVM Tervete Nature park. In the Market of activities you were able to solve some of the tasks children fullfil during the expedition in order to decide whether forest has been regenerated succesfully!
