From the 20th until the 22nd of March, management and specialists from a Bavarian wood management company visited the Joint Stock Company “Latvian State Forests” to gain experience. During the last year, in German Bundesland the state wood management company Bayerische Staatsforsten AoR has been restructured. The main principles of this company are similar to those of the Latvian Joint Stock Company Latvian State Forests, that was established six year ago as a result of a similar reorganization process.
In order to gain experience on how to further develop their forest management branch, the Bavarian state wood management organization will visit three European countries – Latvia, Finlandand Sweden, where the state wood management model is considered to be the most successful.
Working experiences of LSF structural units “LSF Woods”, “LSF Round Timber Delivery” and “LSF Seeds and Plants” have been presented to the delegation.
Guests were especially interested in the wood (chip) measuring system used by LSF that is done using an electronic data-measurer and computer, and in the activity model created in “LSF Round Timber Delivery” where finished production, meaning, saw timber, veneer blocks, pulpwood and wood are directly delivered to the consumer, a mill or wood-processing factory. Also, the historical but still functioning LSF Vijciems’ cone-dryer, which received the European cultural heritage flag as a sign of recognition, was of great interest.
