Forest Calendar: May

May is the time when Latvia becomes as green as in no other time of the year. Different shades of green decorate the landscape - trees, as well as wood sorrels have blossomed, and soon the ground will be covered with small white flowers. Also pine-trees, spruces and birch-trees are blooming, not to mention the aromatic bird-cherry.

Vipers, viviparous lizards and slow worms are having the breeding season, and soon it will also start for sand lizards, smooth snakes and grass snakes.
