Continuing to promote the use of renewable resources for obtaining energy and strengthening Latvia's energy independence, JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) has started the process of selling energy wood chips for the 2023/2024 heating season and has announced the application for the purchase of energy wood chips within the framework of a long-term cooperation contract. In the sales procedure, it is proposed to purchase 650 000 bulk m3 of energy wood chips throughout the territory of Latvia, from which more than 550 thousand megawatt-hours of thermal energy can be produced. The planned delivery period is from May 2023 to April 2024.

Those interested should familiarize themselves with the sales offer and submit applications on the LVM cooperation partner portal by 17 March of this year. Applicants who have not previously participated in the LVM sales process are invited to apply in the order specified in the sales offer in order to certify compliance with the criteria applicable to buyers.

“We highly value the cooperation established between LVM and buyers of energy chips, we especially appreciate the ability of heat supply companies to reorient their energy production process so that it is possible to use energy chips produced by LVM. It should be noted that we have created the sales offer of energy wood chips in such a way that every buyer of wood chips – both a heat supply company and a woodworker – could adjust the delivery of the purchased product to their own production processes and needs. We have implemented automatic data processing in the sales process, thereby streamlining user activities on both the customer and LVM side, while ensuring a higher level of convenience, transparency and security of the process,” says Zigurds Dalke, Sales Process Manager at Production and Delivery of LVM Wood Products.

LVM produces energy wood chips from tree biomass – both from felling residues, such as branches, tops, trimmings, small trees, needles, and from the growth and small wood that remains in the forest after harvesting roadside and ditch growth and tending young stands. Energy wood must dry naturally for 3 to 6 months after preparation to reach the optimum energy value at the time of burning and to be suitable for immediate use in the production of heat.

During this heating season, LVM, in response to the growing demand for wood resources used for heat energy production, additionally offered for sale 150 thousand bulk m3 of energy wood chips in the volume of 130 000 MWh throughout the territory of Latvia with a delivery period from September 2022 to April 2023.
