In order to grow a high-quality and high-value forest, it must be taken good care of throughout the year, providing trees with suitable growing conditions. JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” (LVM) plans its forestry activities in time, inviting the interested parties to participate in two open tenders: Tending of Mineralised Zones and Hogweed Management from 2020 to 2022.

Contractors with appropriate technical means, with or without prior experience in this type of work, are invited to take part in the tender “Tending of Mineralised Zones”. The planned volume of work is 8301 kilometres. Proposals should be submitted in the EIS before 14.01.2020; 12.00.

“Tending of mineralised areas is a measure we take to reduce the risk of forest fires occurring and spreading. In areas where there is a higher risk of fire, the topsoil is processed with agricultural machinery. Such firebreaks in dry forests serve as a barrier to fire flames,” says Edijs Leišavnieks, LVM Forest Protection and Fire-fighting Manager.

Contractors with appropriate technical means, with or without prior experience in this type of work, are invited to take part in the tender “Hogweed Management”. The total scope of works is 1029.5 hectares. Proposals should be submitted in the EIS before 16.01.2020; 12.00.

“It is the responsibility of every landowner to take measures to destroy any hogweed that is growing on the land and to prevent its generations from being restored. Various methods can be used to control hogweed spread, but integrated methods are the most effective. Herbicides are used in such a way as to adversely affect hogweed growth, while the remaining plant species remain intact and quickly take over the area covered by hogweed. Using living space competition is the most effective method for controlling hogweed spread,” says the LVM Forest Protection and Fire-fighting Manager.
