JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” (LVM) calls on secondary school students and students of vocational education institutions aged 16 to 19 years to participate in LVM Bio-economy School scholarship competition. Anyone interested in submitting their vision for the bio-economy poster and this year's theme “Young Stand” is invited to submit their work for the first round of the competition by 31 January 2020. In February, the authors of the best works will head for the Bio-economy Expedition to draw inspiration for creating a special message for the UN International Day of Forests.

Riga school students have the opportunity to receive an additional scholarship from SIA “Rīgas meži”, which supports the involvement of Riga schools in environmental education on sustainable forest management. Additional scholarships are also provided by JSC “Latvijas finieris” and the association “Zaļās māja”.  The total scholarship fund is 2500 euros.

Traditionally, the competition will take place in three rounds. For the first round of the competition, participants are asked to create a poster on the topic of bio-economy under the theme “Young Stand”. Once the posters are ready, guided by industry experts, the students will have an opportunity to expand their horizons by going on a day expedition (on 21 February) to the forests managed by SIA “Rīgas meži” and factories of JSC “Latvijas Finieris”. The acquired knowledge and new impressions will be useful in creating a short video message for the UN International Day of Forests, which will have the main role in awarding the LVM Bio-economy School scholarship.

Already for the fourth year, JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) in cooperation with the association “Zaļās mājas” and the National Centre for Education, JSC “Rīgas meži” and JSC “Latvijas Finieris” arrange the scholarship contest “LVM Bio-economy School”. The competition aims at raising awareness of the growing role of forest resources in addressing environmental problems. In the competition of 2019, scholarships were awarded to students from Daugavpils State Gymnasium, Eastern Latvia Technology High School, Jelgava Spīdola State Gymnasium and Riga State Gymnasium No. 3.
