Forest Calendar: October

October, the month of rain, has arrived. Drops of rain as well as yellow, brown and red leaves are falling all around us. Although this time is not favourable for mushroom pickers, there are a number of colourful and interesting mushrooms in nature that are worth not only to be painted but also to be captured in a photograph.

Also the period of red deer bellowing - one of the most impressive events in Latvian nature - comes to an end this month. Migration time for migratory birds continues, and mammals who hibernate are feeding actively to accumulate subcutaneous fat.
