LVM Calls for Proposals for Scientific Research "Improvement of Birch Cultivation Practice"

JSC "Latvia's State Forests" (LVM) in cooperation with JSC "Latvijas Finieris" calls for proposals for conducting scientific research "Improvement of Birch Cultivation Practice".

The study provides for activities that will improve birch regeneration in the future and the economic performance of its cultivation. Four directions have been defined for the study:

1. Peculiarities, quality and vitality of outdoor birch growing in heavy, poorly drained clay and loamy soils, as well as in forests with meliorated peat soils (in peatlands);
2. Improvement of the technology for outdoor birch planting, increasing the economic efficiency of its cultivation (net present value);
3. Monitoring of the growth and vitality of birch seedlings of different origins in experimental plantations in the western and eastern regions;
4. Birch genetic research by selecting the most vivid clones for future birch breeding work.
