THE TĒRVETE RECREATION AND NATURE PARK

Tērvete is one of the most often visited tourist destinations in Latvia, because it has unique and beautiful natural views, a landscape that is not typical of the Zemgale region, and both monuments of ancient and the more recent history.

The pine forest in Tērvete has no equal in Latvia or anywhere in the Baltics. The old pine park, despite the many storms that have passed over it, is still standing tall, and it is an awesome sight to see. Some of the trees are nearly 300 years old.

Tērvete is an ancient place, with a wealth of history. There are three mighty castle mounds, castle ruins, and locations of ancient settlements and burial grounds to remind us of this.

Tērvete is proud of its local daughter, the writer Anna Brigadere. A museum devoted to the beloved author’s life, “Sprīdīši”, is open to visitors. The museum and its surroundings have been preserved in the appearance which they had when Brigadere was alive.

The forest landscape park of Tērvete is constantly being improved and upgraded, and it is a favorite for many tourists. The “Elf Forest” is being reconstructed. The sculptors K. Kugra and R. Kalniņš carved the elves from wood, and now the Elf family is building a whole city. Several Elf buildings are already up on both sides of Elf Road. The children’s area of the park is also being upgraded.
