| In late 2003, in pursuit of the optimisation of LVM operations, a separate structural unit was set up to organise services related to recreation and hunting. “LVM Recreation and Hunting” handles functions which are not the basic job of LVM itself. It offers tours, accommodations, rental of inventory, licensed fishing in LVM lakes, as well as hunting services.
“LVM Recreation and Hunting” oversees four bodies of water – Lake Zebrus, Lake Lielauce, Lake Kanieris and the Tçrvete reservoir, all of which have boats for rent and licensed fishing available. The agency also oversees the Tçrvete Nature Park and the Pokaiòi Forest. At Zebrus and Tçrvete, guests can enjoy boats and water cycles, as well as cottages for accommodations. There are recreational facilities and space for campfires.
Each year LVM supplements the stock of fish in its lake – 2.7 million young pike, 100,000 young pike-perch, 20,000 young eel and 1,700 kilograms of carp were released into the four lakes between 2000 and 2004.
“LVM Recreation and Hunting” offers local residents and foreign guests the chance to go hunting. All formalities are handled, and guides, transport and accommodations are offered for a fee. Income also comes from payments for hunted animals. In 2004, “LVM Recreation and Hunting” managed 100,000 ha of forest in which hunting is organised. Income from hunting services amounted to Ls 340,000 in that year. The number of hunters who make use of LVM services is on the rise. Interestingly enough, among those who hunted in LVM-managed forests, some 90% came from other countries – Austria, Denmark, France, Italy, Norway, Poland, Finland, Germany, Sweden and other countries.
“LVM Recreation and Forests” has four regional precincts – the Western Precinct, the Eastern Precinct and the Parks Precinct. The Western and Eastern precincts are divided up into hunting regions.
The main job for “LVM Recreation and Hunting” is to improve the quality of the services which it provides.
