 Ada 1

On Thursday, 19 October, the Embassy of Latvia's State Forests will host the Day of the Japanese Quince where all interested are warmly invited to explore the healthy and aromatic lemon of Latvia.

Visitors will also have an opportunity to purchase the latest species of the Japanese Quince grown in nurseries of JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” (LVM): Rasa, Darius and Rondo. To cheer up the body in the cool, dark autumn evenings, the Institute of Horticulture has prepared various Japanese Quince products that will be offered to the guests - both for tasting and purchasing.

The seminar will take place from 15 to 17; experts will consult on matters related to Japanese Quince planting, growing, processing and other questions of interest.

Fruit of the Japanese Quince are hard and sour, but they are valuable and healthy, and four times richer in vitamin C and other immune-boosting substances than apples. Besides, with its glory of blossoms the Japanese Quince can compete with other leafy shrubs.

The valuable properties of the Japanese Quince have long been appreciated around the world. In ancient Greece, the fruit was particularly respected. There even was a special law that provided that this fruit must be eaten on the wedding day, so that the future life of the newly-weds is as pleasant as the smell of the Japanese Quince.

Also, in Latvia, Japanese Quince fruit were placed in wardrobes so that the clothes would soak up their pleasant aroma.
