Each year, JSC "Latvia's State Forests" (LVM) in cooperation with the National Centre for Education, invites schools to learn from nature. Starting from pre-school kids and ending with university students and educators - everyone has the opportunity to go to Latvia's state forests and supplement the knowledge acquired at school with practical tasks in nature. Every year, more than 20 000 children, school students and teachers learn about the forest in the diverse school programmes offered by LVM. Application for two of these programmes Pigman's Detectives (Cūkmena detektīvi) and Mother Nature Master Class (Mammadaba meistarklase) is closed now, and the participants can receive their study materials and get started.

This year, almost 2 500 Pigman's detectives from 107 kindergarten groups will take part in the programme intended for the youngest learners - pre-schoolers. All participants will receive Pigman's secret bag with study materials, games and surprises. In turn, more than 11 thousand primary school students are committed to make three master works - an outdoor master class, a wooden craft work and master forest day - and receive Mother Nature Master Class diplomas and badges in the spring. More information about the Mother Nature Master Class is available here: http://www.mammadaba.lv/skolam/meistarklase/ko-daram

Both programmes are also open to those who did not manage to apply. Pigman's Detectives materials are available electronically; Mother Nature Master Class masterpiece boards will be available at all LVM customer centres in both regions and in Riga, as well as in the Mother Nature embassy schools.

The most active and creative schools will become Mother Nature embassies. There are 9 embassies throughout the country this year:

  • In Riga - Riga Estonian Primary School
  • In Ziemeļkurzeme (the northern part of Kurzeme) - Ventspils Secondary School No. 4
  • In Dienvidkurzeme (the southern part of Kurzeme) - Aizpute Secondary School
