It is the Time for Duck Hunting

meza pile tev1

Very soon - already on 12 August, the waterfowl hunting season will start in Latvia. Before hunting, it is advisable not only to revise the hunting safety regulations, but also check the legal status of a specific hunting area and restrictions for its use for waterfowl hunting. Hunters are also encouraged to fill in a special questionnaire.

Just like in previous years, within the framework of the project "Investigation of Nesting and Hunted Waterfowl" funded by the Hunting Management Development Fund (Medību saimniecības attīstības fonds - MSAF) hunters are invited to take part in a survey, and accurately document the hunted waterfowl.

It is important to obtain the following information on the hunted birds (mainly ducks): age and gender structure, annual breeding success, the presence of feathered male ducks, as well as changes in the number of hunters and hunting achievements. Therefore, hunters are encouraged to record this and any additional information (for example, lost birds, use of a dog, etc.) throughout the hunting season, even if the hunt has been unsuccessful, by completing the questionnaire (see attached documents).

Birds hunted in August should be reported immediately after the end of the month, and other birds - after the end of the hunting season.
