On 4 July, the Board of the Latvian Open Technologies Association (Latvijas atvērto tehnoloģiju asociācija - LATA) decided to admit JSC "Latvijas valsts meži" (LVM) into membership of the association.

The LATA announcement on admittance: LVM is among the most innovative and effective forest management companies in Europe, which extensively uses information technologies (IT), including geospatial information technologies (GIT), to support its business activities. The development of GITs in the company is ensured using internal development resources, and the development team is one of the main drivers of open technology development in the company. LVM not only integrates open technologies and data according to its business needs, but also offers the company's open data and technologies to anyone interested. The company takes an active role in the development of open technology and data policy in the country.

"Our company supports and participates in the development of open technologies, mainly in the field of geospatial information technologies. Open geospatial information technologies benefit both forestry, as well as many other sectors of the Latvian economy. They promote provision of high value-added IT products and services for businesses and organisations. Joining the association will allow LVM to support and contribute actively to the development of open information technologies in Latvia, as well as to receive LATA support for technological development in the company," said Māris Kuzmins, Executive Director LVM Business System Solutions.

The Latvian Open Technologies Association is among the leading associations of the Latvian information and communication technology industry. It brings together organisations and individuals that support open and high-quality technologies as well as free and fair competition in the development and delivery of technologies. Currently LATA has 92 members - 27 legal entities and 65 natural persons.
